EPS (Expanded Polystyrene)

BeamCeiling

EPS is an open cell styrofoam used extensively in the building industry. The styrofoam is cut into architectural elements such as columns, corbels, window and door trim and crown moldings. To protect the foam a stucco coating is almost always applied to the exterior portions and once done looks like its more expensive and durable cousin  - precast. The beauty of EPS is it's light weight and economical factor which makes it very easy to handle and install. No strained backs or broken toes.

Pictured to the right is a series of large faux beams made from styrofoam textured and painted to look like wood. The home owner, a real estate executive says, "I've had builders over at parties and they can't even tell they are not the real thing."
